When Israeli extremists want to advertise a ceremony to honor the founder of a Jewish terrorist group, it is Peace Now that stops them.
That's exactly what happened this week. On Tuesday, Israel Radio
broadcast an advertisement inviting Israelis to attend a commemoration
for Meir Kahane.
Kahane was the founder of Kach, which is recognized by both the Israeli and American governments as a terrorist group. He advocated the forcible removal of all Palestinians from Israel, the West Bank and Gaza. His followers included Baruch Goldstein, who murdered 29 Palestinians during prayers at a Hebron mosque in 1994.
Peace Now responded quickly, sending text messages to thousands of activists, asking them to call the radio network and protest the ad.
As Israel's most popular news website, Ynet, reported, "the radio station was flooded with complaints from listeners... [it] decided to withdraw the ad."
This is but one example of the manner in which Peace Now is making a difference and shaping the political debate in Israel.
The importance of deligitimizing Kahane's ideas is reinforced by the news this week that Israeli authorities arrested a settler on suspicion of committing numerous terrorist acts over the past 12 years, including the murder of Palestinians and the attempted murder of Professor Ze'ev Sternhell over Sternhell's ties with Peace Now.

Peace Now's action here is impressive, yet it's shocking that the radio station aired the ad to begin with. Clearly there is much more work to be done.
