Washington, DC - Americans for Peace Now (APN) president and CEO Debra DeLee today issued the following statement on the re-launching of Israeli-Palestinian peace talks:
"APN congratulates President Obama and the leaders of Israel, the Palestinians, Jordan and Egypt for coming to Washington to re-launch Israeli-Palestinian direct peace negotiations. This week's events are just the first step in what will be a difficult effort that we fervently hope will deliver results."
"Israelis and Palestinians are yearning for results. For too long, the peace process has produced too much process and too little peace. This new effort will be different only if all sides avoid the pitfalls of the past and keep their eyes firmly on the goal: resolving the core issues of the conflict in order to reach and implement a peace agreement.
"This peace effort will succeed only if Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Abbas demonstrate courage and a real commitment to peace. Its success will also depend on the personal engagement and investment of President Obama. We urge President Obama to demonstrate resolute leadership and determination as he and his aides shepherd the negotiations."
APN is America's leading Jewish organization advocating for peace for Israel.
