Demand President Bush Implement Baker-Hamilton Report
The Iraq Study Group, headed by Former Secretary of State James Baker and Former Congressman and Chair of the House International Relations Committee Lee Hamilton, yesterday unveiled its report which made a number of common sense recommendations related to the Arab-Israeli conflict, including:
-
"a renewed and sustained commitment by the United States to a comprehensive Arab-Israeli peace on all fronts: Lebanon, Syria, and President Bush's June 2002 commitment to a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine;"
-
"direct talks with, by, and between" Israel, Syria, Lebanon, and the Palestinians; and
-
holding meetings "under the auspices of the United States or the Quartet" between Israel and Lebanon and Syria, and Israel and the Palestinians to negotiate peace "as was done at the Madrid Conference in 1991, and on two separate tracks-one Syrian/Lebanese, and the other Palestinian."
The Commission also wrote that, "The United States does its ally Israel no favors in avoiding direct involvement to solve the Arab-Israeli conflict."
Please contact President Bush, your Representative, and your Senators. Ask them to see to it that these recommendations are implemented.
