Around 150 of Peace Now activists arrived at Erez Crossing in a car convoy from Tel Aviv, in order to protest the continuing Qassam fire and Israeli military activity in the Gaza Strip.
The car convoy comprised of 50 cars all decorated with signs calling for the government to return to negotiations to end the conflict. The convoy departed from Glilot Junction in the morning hours and travelled down south through the rocket hit Israeli city of Sderot, to the Erez Crossing where a demonstration was held under the slogan "Only Negotiations will End the Qassams".
Meretz Mk Haim Oron spoke at the demo declaring that the only solution to the Qassam fire was a political one, and Israel should refrain from committing any more troops into the Gaza Strip.
Journalist Gideon Levy spoke and so did the head of the Fatah Movement in Gaza, Suffian Abu Zayda, via cellular phone (he was denied a permit by the Israeli authorities to attend the demo). Both reiterated that only a ceasefire and the mutual recognition of both peoples will end the conflict.
